San Jose, California. – Community Cycles of California (CCofCA) has launched BENCHpass, an innovative bicycle repair and education program that gives cyclists of all skill levels affordable access to professional workshop facilities, specialized tools, bicycle parts, and individualized mechanical instruction.

With the simple promise, "Your Bike. Our Bench. A Pro by Your Side," BENCHpass helps eliminate common obstacles that prevent people from maintaining and repairing their own bicycles: lack of workspace, specialized tools, affordable replacement parts, and mechanical expertise.

“BENCHpass grew directly from requests by Community Cycles customers who frequently asked, ‘can I borrow your tools?’ or ‘can I watch your mechanics so I can learn?’” said Collin Bruce, Co-Founder of Community Cycles. “Participants in BENCHpass can develop practical skills they need, build confidence, save money, and become more self-sufficient in maintaining their bicycles.”

BENCHpass provides access to professional bicycle repair stands, workspaces, tools, and shop
consumables during regular business hours. Specialized equipment, such as a bearing press,
wheel-truing stands and more, are available on request. Participants can choose an hourly pass, a
prepaid package, or unlimited workshop access through monthly or annual membership.

Participants also have the opportunity to learn from all manner of mechanical work - from fixing a first flat tire to performing more advanced maintenance. One-on-one instruction focused on specific components or repairs and the ABC’s of Bike Safety & Maintenance are available, as well as volunteer mechanic training and Park Tool School - an industry-recognized 30-hour bicycle mechanics training program. Classes are available for individuals and organizations, with selected programs offered at outside locations.

BENCHpass participants also have access to a wide selection of bicycle parts to meet their repair needs and budgets, including quality used components, new aftermarket parts, and brand-name components. Parts discounts of 15% for members and 10% for hourly users makebicycle maintenance even more economical.

BENCHpass is designed to accommodate both occasional repairs and regular home mechanics with options to allow participants to choose the level of access, education, and assistance that best suits their skills and budgets. Workshop access starts at $10 per hour, with a 10-hour package available for $75. Unlimited access memberships cost $25 monthly or $250 annually. Individualized mechanical instruction is available for $40 per hour, while introductory bicycle safety and maintenance group classes start at $25 per person.

“By sharing our professional facilities and mechanical knowledge with the community, we are creating opportunities for cyclists to take greater responsibility for the maintenance, safety, and reliability of their bicycles,” said Bruce. “Everyone from first-time bicycle owners to experienced home mechanics looking for equipment or assistance with a challenging repair is welcome to contact us to learn about workshop availability, memberships, private instruction and classes.”
